News release of the opening of Bangkok's new airport, Suvarnabhumi |
Where do you stay if you arrive at Don Muang airport late at night, and
fly to another city in the early morning on the following day?
I think that sleeping rough at airport has the risk of missing luggage,
and going downtown is wasted time and money even if staying guest house.
So I have recently stayed Airport Suite Bangkok because this hotel offers
free shuttle bus transfer from-to the airport, and serves breakfast from
5:30 a.m.
After booking the hotel, I knew there is the Day Room for transit passengers;
however, I didn't cancel the reservation because the hotel seemed to be
reasonable than the Day Room.
And I found We-Train International House as one of transit hotels, but I won't stay this hotel.
So CNN said "Plans had been proposed to allow some operations to remain
at Don Muang, but now it has been decided that nearly all commercial cargo
and passenger flights will operate from Suvarnabhumi, with only a few charter
flights using the old airport."
Now I found Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel and Royal Princess Srinakarin are opened for transit passengers of Suvarnabhumi
Airport in September.
By the way, can we find the information of budget transit hotels from around
this Christmas holiday?

I had a breakfast at 5:30 a.m. in order to board Thai Airways (TG) 303
to Yangon.
To my joy, the restaurant serves buffet-style breakfast in spite of early
morning.
The hotel provides free shuttle bus transfer to the Don Muang International
airport, a front desk clerk assigns suitable shuttle bus on your request.
The bus took only quarter of an hour to the airport, but I didn't do anything
because of crowded check-in counter.
I could have had a cup of coffee or tea if I could smoothly go through
the embarkation procedure.
And I joined Mileage Plus before this travel because I was planning to fly by Thai Airways which is one of Star Alliance member.
To my surprise, I was not troubled a snail's procession at Yangon airport.
I just only found Japanese speaking guide there because I already applied
for sightseeing day trip of Sanay Travel.
So Yangon is very hot in Spring, private tour is suitable for managing
my time efficiently.
It was very good that I was taken to major sightseeing places, reliable
money changer, restaurants of my choice (meals for extra charge), and also
fortune-tellers who are popular among Myanmarese.
Ms. Lin Myat Htwe, Sanay Travel tour guide can speak Japanese as well as
English.
She said it would be better to visit to Shwedagon Pagoda in the evening
because I must take off shoes and socks on the heated floor.
Hence we explored other pagodas in the morning and then went to there in
the evening.
We went to Dala, the bank opposite Yangon by Island Water Transport, which
takes around ten minutes.
When I bought the ferry ticket, improbably I was required to show my passport.
There were many locals and some peddlers attended to business in the ferry.
Do they a good thriving?
After arrival at Dala, I asked "does any tourist attraction here?"
Ms. Lin Myat Htwe said "Nothing to see here, and we haven't got the
time to Twante."
So I couldn't find even small market, we returned to Yangon on her advice.
Therefore the ferry cost us US$1 (1,350kyats), but locals pay only 20 Kyats;
it is around 650 times difference!
After coming back from Dala, Ms. Lin Myat Htwe asked me where I want to
have a lunch.
I answered I want to be taken to some local restaurants because I might
have gone such places without her.
She seemed to be surprised and said "Local food does not always suit
my palate."
In the event we went to local restaurant at back-alley, and I was relieved
because local food didn't very tasteless.
Otherwise I might have chosen Chinese food during traveling in Myanmar.
After lunch we went to Chauk Htat Kyi Pagoda which is famous for its huge
image of Reclining Buddha, Botahtaung Pagoda and then Shwedagon Pagoda.
Shwedagon Pagoda is the most popular tourist attractions in Yangon, many
local prayers and tourists came here.
I explored major places in pagoda with Lin, and then walked around here
alone.
Some would-be student came close to me, and then began to explain about
the pagoda and took my photo with scenery.
Was he pro-Japanese and good guy? This answer was surely no.
He said me to pay money for guide. Off course I never did it and said "I
haven't employed you as a guide."
I wondered if he chase after me, but he didn't do it.
Finally, I got a popular "8 day in a week for destiny" in Myanmar.
It's easy. I told fortune-teller my birth date, and then Ms. Lin Myat Htwe
translated his saying.
Unfortunately its result was not always good for me.
After tour finished I invited her to dinner.
We went to Japanese food restaurant, Shan Maw Myae which is her favorite.
This restaurant serves nice food for reasonable price.
I would fly to Bagan in early morning.
By the way, I took the easy course for joining Japanese guided tour.
Can I manage tomorrow?
