This day was rainy in Yangon. I wondered the rainy season set in.
But I flew to Bagan early morning, I didn't worry about it.
The hotel staff forgot about delivering breakfast to my room, but they
made breakfast box for me.
Yangon Airways flight took about an hour and a half from Yangon to Bagan.
When I arrived at Bagan, admission fee for US$10 was required.
As I went out of arrival hall, someone asked me to hire a guide.
He was Mr. U Bo Ni, licensed English speaking tour guide in Bagan.
He offered to lead me US$5 per an hour and transfer to my hotel for US$4
extra.
I accepted his offer because I thought there is few Japanese speaking guide
in Bagan, and I could understand his talk.
After arrival the hotel, I explored historical sites by Mr. U Bo Ni's guide.
We went to just only "Must See" places according to the travel
guide book because I was planning to stay only two nights and there are
lots of historical sites here.
In the morning, firstly we went to Shwezigon Paya which consists of a circular
gold leaf-gilded stupa, and then Htilominlo Temple which was built during
the reign of King Nandaungmya also known as Htilominlo. The word "Htilominlo"
literally means desired by the royal white umbrella, and desired by the
king.
Secondly we went to Khay Min Ga Temple where nice scenery can be seen from
the upper tier; hence, Mr. U Bo Ni recommended here.
Thirdly we went to Ananda Temple which is the most popular tourist attractions
in Bagan.
This magnificent temple completed in 1090 during the reign of King Kyanzittha of the Pagan Dynasty, and houses four standing Buddhas, each one facing the cardinal direction of East, North, West and South.
There were many children around the temple, they commonly applied thanaka cream to the face.
Thanaka gives a cooling sensation and provides protection from sunburn,
also brings mosquito repellent.
And it is believed to help remove acne and promote smooth skin.
The fourth was Shwegugyi Temple where nice scenery can be seen from the
upper tier as well as Khay Min Ga Temple, and then Dhammayangyi Temple
which was built during the reign of King Narathu.
Narathu came to the throne by assassinating his father King Alaungsithu
and his elder brother, Prince Min Shin Saw, presumably built this largest
temple to atone for his sins.
Dhammayangyi Temple hasn't been completed because of difficulty of finding
successors as Narathu had been in disrepute in his days of nature.
After lunch we finally went to Buphaya Pagoda. Mr. U Bo Ni said it's advisable
to come here in the evening, but it would have been the same whenever I
come due to cloudy day.
